Pur Mineral’s A Review & Giveaway

imageIf you asked The Chief to tell someone about me one of the things he is bound to always mention is my love (he would probably use the term obsession) with makeup, candles, and bath and body products. I’m not really sure at exactly when in my life I decided that I couldn’t live without these things but I definitely can’t, I love my collection of makeup and I seem to always be on the lookout for the next new “thing” in the cosmetic industry. I’ve tried more brands then I really care to admit in the hunt for products that work for me and my skin. You can imagine how overjoyed I was when One Little Indian got picked to host a Pur Minerals review & giveaway to promote their new product the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation. Finding a good foundation is something I still haven’t managed to achieve, well before trying Pur Minerals 4-in-1 that is.

I had never tried Pur Mineral’s Makeup prior to receiving it to review so I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. I love mineral makeup and have tried several other brands to no avail. The problems I seem to keep running into are that the product is either A. Way too Expensive or B. Leaves my skin feeling dry neither of which are problems I can easily look past to convince me to purchase a brand again. For my review I was sent the Pur Mineral’s Start Now! kit which included:

     4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup
     Neutral Primer
     Mineral Glow
     Impact+ Mascara
     Chisel Brush

I was quite surprised at the ample sizing in the Start Now kit, I’ve received Starter Kits before as gifts and have come to realize that none usually provide enough product to get a good “feel” for the product. I generally have to use a product for several weeks before I decide if I like it or not and Pur Mineral’s Start Now Kit’s products are generous, so much so that I’ve been using my kit for about 3 weeks now and I still have plenty of product left. Hooray! I love that the kit includes a Chisel Brush too, I’ve always wanted one for mineral makeup but never seem to be able to find one in my price range. This is a really nice brush too, I’ve not had one “shedding” incident with the bristles.

The product of the hour, the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup was the item in the kit I was most excited to try out of course! First I should give you a bit of background about my skin. I have incredibly dry skin that likes to flake which generally results in my having to use moisturizer first, wait for it to dry, and then use my foundation. This “routine” then results in my makeup melting in the humid Florida heat thus creating a lose/lose situation. Even with most mineral makeup if I skip the moisturizer step I flake so I was excited to see if the combination of the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup would do the trick. The 4-in-1 contains a blend of foundation, concealer, powder, and SPF 15, yay for sunscreen! To give the 4-in-1 the old "College try I decided to skip the Primer beforehand the first time I used it to see if it would be as problematic as other mineral makeups I’ve tried. The verdict? Although it seemed like it took me quite a long time to get the coverage I desired I didn’t flake and since I didn’t have to moisturize my face didn’t melt either! A++ in my book.

The next time I tried the 4-in-1 while using the Primer base and of course it worked even better. The Neutral Primer creates a nice smooth surface for the foundation to be applied to which helped with the time consuming nature of getting the coverage I like, they make a great pair indeed. I noticed that with the Neutral Primer you only need a very little bit which is nice coming from the mindset that I generally have to use at least a quarter size of primer to get desired results. I’ve been using the 4-in-1 and Primer combination for several weeks now and I’m a very happy girl. When Pur Minerals was in the testing phase for their new 4-in-1  Pressed Mineral Foundation during an eight-week clinical study 89% of women saw a smoother, softer appearance in their skin and 75% reported experiencing less visible irritation. I am excited to try my Pur Mineral’s 4-in-1 during the winter months when my skin seems to be the most irritable to see if this eliminates the problem. I do already notice that my cheeks and along my jaw line feel as if they are softer and I’ve noticed less dry skin flaking on my forehead since beginning Pur Mineral’s. I’m imagining this is due in part to the Ceretin Complex used in the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup, a combination of retinol and moisture-maximizing ceramides said to smooth away the look of lines, fight visible discoloration, and encourage a brighter, even-toned complexion. I like it!

This review is centered around the new 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup but I just have to share with you how well the other products that I received in the Start Now! kit work. The Mineral Glow is a product I wasn’t quite sure about when I opened my kit. I chose the kit in the Light color because well I’m a pale pale girl. When I popped open the box I noticed that the Mineral Glow was pretty dark, I was worried that this might create a fake look to my complexion but figured I would try it out anyways to get the full effect. I was quite impressed after applying the Mineral Glow just how well it blended in with the foundation and created well, a nice glow to my complexion. It doesn’t look fake at all, the Mineral Glow gave my skin a sort of sun kissed look that is hard to achieve when I spend countless hours indoors. I feel that the Mineral Glow really accentuates the 4-in-1 and paired I have a beautiful natural looking flawless canvas. This was quite a lesson for me in trying new things and I’m pretty sure now that I never want to be without a bronzer or Mineral Glow again. Thank you Pur Mineral’s!

The last product that I received in the Start Now! kit was the Impact+ Mascara. I am quite a skeptic when it comes to mascara (or really many beauty products if you can tell). Don’t get me wrong my look always “includes” mascara I have just never found a brand I’ve been overly impressed with. I will give Pur Mineral’s props though, they do mascara very well and this mascara, this impressed me. This is a rather non-frills mascara. No fancy brush, no crazy claims about MAX eyelashes. Just good wholesome mascara.  And the verdict, it works! The Impact+ Mascara is very easy to apply, it doesn’t clump, and one swipe over each eyelash and I was good to go. One of my pet peeves with mascara is that during the day it usually flakes causing my eyes to become incredibly irritated. The Impact+ Mascara lived up to the high standards of Pur Mineral’s and I went all day long with no flaking and just gorgeous lashes. I didn’t even have to curl my lashes to get a defined look, the mascara did all the work. I’m a fan.
